On Thursday 22nd August 2019, Madison Marcus officially launched our Melbourne Office with an event held at The George on Collins St. This event was the celebratory culmination of the merger between Madison Marcus and historic Victorian firm, Sabelberg Morcos Lawyers, that took effect from 1 July 2019.
The launch of the Madison Marcus Melbourne office was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the synergies that existed between the two firms in terms of our values, culture, service offering and areas of growth; as well as to recognise the 40 year history of Sabelberg Morcos Lawyers in the Victorian legal market. Our valued clients were also able to learn about the enhanced capability that Madison Marcus is now able to provide to its clients both in Victoria, as well throughout Australia and internationally.
We were honoured that over 200 of our key clients and business partners were in attendance, with many travelling interstate for the occasion. We were also delighted many special guests who are associated with the firm through our strong community ties were able to make time in their very busy schedules to join the celebration, including: The Hon. Peter Khalil MP, Melbourne City Councillor Kevin Louey, His Excellency Mohamed Fahkry – Consul General of Egypt , Mr. Nick Kaldas APM – Former Police Commissioner of NSW, Ms Sandy Guo, – Victorian State Government Representative to Jiangsu Province, China; and Ms. Lucy Lu, representing the Grand Compass Law Alliance.
Following a welcome from our Chairman, John Elvy, both Madison Marcus Group Managing Director Bechara Shamieh and Director and Managing Partner – Victoria, Jimmy Morcos reflected on all the factors that led to the merger and the benefits it has already produced for our clients, our staff and our ability to innovate into the future.
The primary emphasis of the evening was acknowledging and celebrating the rich history, expertise and culture both firms bring to the merger and the successful transition to operating as one firm, made seamless due to the uncompromising values both firms maintain and will continue to build our business around : Diversity, Transparency, Integrity , Teamwork and Progress. We also had an opportunity to acknowledge and also to formally thank Frank Sabelberg, founder of Sabelberg Morcos Lawyers, for his service to his clients, the firm and the Victorian legal community and to wish him all the best for his hard earned retirement.
Sabelberg Morcos Lawyers has had a long running partnership with the Grand Compass Law Alliance which compromises of the 11 largest law firms across China. A key focus of the evening was to recognise the opportunities that the Grand Compass Alliance in China affords the firm and our clients. Madison Marcus is now the sole Australian representative firm in this exclusive international legal affiliate network, and this allows us to provide to our clients unrivalled pathways for Australian business investment in the increasingly dominant Asian market.
Councillor Kevin Louey spoke of the strong connection the City of Melbourne has had and will continue to enjoy with Madison Marcus and recognised the importance of the Grand Compass Law Alliance for Australian business and spoke on the key benefits that Madison Marcus’ continued relationship with the Alliance and the Council will bring to clients who wish to invest in Melbourne.
In what has become a Madison Marcus tradition, we also used the occasion to launch a new community partnership. Our Group Managing Director Bechara Shamieh was delighted to announce Madison Marcus’ collaboration with Manna 4 Life – a charity which was established to help underprivileged people and communities of any background or of any age in Melbourne. We were fortunate enough to hear from its CEO, Michael Chris Gallie about the life saving work that Manna 4 Life does the for anyone in need in Melbourne’s South- East and Inner North. Since its first night of operation in June 2012, Manna 4 Life has:
Madison Marcus is humbled to have the chance to support the work of Manna 4 Life and thank the 60 volunteers who selflessly devote their time to the cause, from preparing the meals or assisting in the staffing of the drop in centres.
