Chris is an experienced banking and finance lawyer with broad legal and commercial experience both in Australia and internationally.
Chris has been involved in a wide range of ground-breaking transactions. He has led many of the world’s largest project financings, innovative Islamic financing transactions, and banking and securities regulatory matters for leading investment banks. Chris represents lenders and borrowers with particular skills in financing transactions and cross-border matters.
With a major focus on Australian property and construction financing, Chris heads a team that represents leading developers, builders and international financiers and investment partners.
His legal career began in the banking division of a leading Australian law firm before spending 15 years in international law firms in South East Asia and the Middle East. Back in Sydney, Chris established his own legal consulting firm. Chris joined Madison Marcus to lead their banking and finance division in November 2016.
Chris takes the time to understand his clients’ business and their definition of success. He takes a no-nonsense approach to representing clients in transactions and provides responsive, commercial advice aimed at achieving successful outcomes efficiently.

Writing, speaking and recognition
Chris is the Australian country representative and a regulator contributor to Islamic Finance News. He speaks at conferences, conducts seminars and has lectured at university level. Chris has been listed in legal directories of leading finance lawyers in three international jurisdictions. He has been recognised as one of the world’s leading Islamic finance lawyers.
Before joining Madison Marcus, Chris volunteered as a solicitor at The Shopfront Youth Legal Centre in Darlinghurst, Sydney, assisting disadvantaged and homeless youth.
